Car Culture is religion here at SoS. So when Red Bull, a company that has revamped car culture, does music, the staff here at SoS is on hand to witness it. Red Bull’s Emsee Tour made a stop in Miami this past Wednesday and it was an eargasm. The atmosphere was that of street corners and circle crowds where freestyle battles would subject your ears to a verbal onslaught of clever punch lines and euphemisms. The artists crowded the sidewalk early in the evening for a bit of banter and wordplay, warming up for the competition ahead of them. It was a call to arms for the eight artists competing for a trip to Atlanta, GA for the Emsee finals. Once there, the winner would be granted access to Red Bull Studios with the headlining producer of their choice.

The tournament style battle started with a round of visual cues to use against your opponent. The second round gave the remaining participants key words to use during their attempt to pick apart the opponent. The third was a two part battle with a backing track and an acapella portion. The three rounds were a back and forth exchange that left Johnny Storm and Surgeon General in the finals. The Final battle was close and after the judges and crowd called OT, Johnny Storm won his way to Atlanta. Judges Wrekonize (MayDay), M-1 (Dead Prez) and Royce da 5’9 (Shady/Aftermath) called the shots throughout the night and each performed for the crowd. Kid Vicious finished out the night with a surprise guest appearance. State of Stance brings you Car Culture and Red Bull fuels it into a caffeine induced coma.
